Axar Patel Doesn't Demand Leadership
Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has suggested that Axar Patel doesn't demand leadership and is happy contributing to the team in IPL 2023. Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has backed Patel for the Delhi Capitals captaincy in the near future. Patel was named as the deputy to David Warner after Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the IPL due to injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022. Delhi Capitals have won just three out of their nine games and are currently bottom of the points table. However, they fought back from 23-5 to post 130 and successfully defend the total against defending champions Gujarat Titans. Gavaskar believes that if Patel takes up the captaincy, it might be something that Indian cricket would benefit from. He cited the example of Rohit Sharma, who took over Mumbai Indians' captaincy in 2013.
